At the end of May 1995, a supervisory steering committee was established to oversee the implementation of the project.
The aims of the project are as follows:
to build a proper
infrastructure for visits by
tourists and pilgrims,
to ensure comfort for the visitor today and during
the expected wave of
visitors in the year 2000,
to enable all Christian
communities to have
access to the holy places,
to highlight the charm of
Nazareth, and to develop
points of interest and long,
varied touring routes.

The project is also meant
to raise the standard of
living of the citizens of
Nazareth, develop sources
of employment, increase
options for tourist
accommodations and
services in the city, and
create conditions for
investment in Nazareth's
tourism industry.
Architect and town planner
Arie Rahamimoff was
asked to prepare a plan for
the development of
tourism infrastructures in
Nazareth. Rahamimoff and
his team identified sites of
historical and cultural
value that fit the
description of "national
treasures," a term first
coined in the master plan
for Israel in the year 2020.
The work has begun.
The market has
been renovated and a
ceremony marking the
completion of its face-lift
is to take place soon.
